Industrial Building Types
Industrial Steel Buildings We've Delivered
Six common industrial typologies — each with its own structural quirks (insulation envelopes, crane allowances, rack-supported decks). We've delivered every one across Melbourne's industrial west and north corridors.
01
Distribution Centres
Long-span sheds with dock-high loading bays, mezzanine offices and forklift rack support. Designed for 24/7 logistics throughput.
02
Cold Storage Facilities
Insulated portal envelopes with sealed connections, ice and condensation provisions, and structural allowance for refrigeration plant.
03
Manufacturing Plants
Crane-ready portals with reinforced columns, gantry support beams, and floor anchor patterns for production equipment.
04
Workshops & Service Bays
Mid-span workshops for mechanical, automotive and trade businesses — single or multi-bay with vehicle access doors and mezzanine offices.
05
Logistics & Freight Hubs
Cross-dock buildings with twin loading faces, dock canopies and structural framing for conveyor systems and racking towers.
06
Light Industrial Sheds
Smaller-footprint industrial buildings for trade, storage and service operators. Standardised portal sizes keep fabrication lead time tight.
Industrial Engineering
Crane Gantries, Mezzanines and Industrial Structural Steel
Beyond the portal frame itself, four structural elements decide whether your industrial build actually works in service. Each one engineered to the relevant Australian Standard, with full documentation handed over at install sign-off.
Element 01
Crane Gantry Beams
AS 1418Underslung and top-running crane runway beams sized to AS 1418. Continuous over multiple bays where required, with rail-cleat anchorages and deflection-checked at full load plus 25%.
Element 02
Industrial Mezzanines
AS 4100 + AS 1657Bolt-on industrial mezzanines for rack-supported decks, plant platforms and office floors above warehouse footprints. Stairs, balustrades and kickplates engineered to AS 1657.
Element 03
Dock & Loading Bay Framing
Custom EngineeredStructural framing around dock levellers, recess pits and roller door openings. Heavy-duty corner posts and impact-rated steelwork where vehicles regularly contact framing.
Element 04
Plant Platforms & Walkways
AS 1657Elevated platforms for machinery, compressors and HVAC equipment. Galvanised platform steelwork with grating, handrails and access ladders all engineered to AS 1657 safety standards.
Site to Sign-off
How We Deliver Industrial Steel Buildings
Four stages from site visit to install sign-off. We work alongside your civil contractor, slab subbie and electrical trade so the steel arrives ready to bolt and the building hits its commissioning date.
Stage 01
Site Visit & Engineering
We walk the site with your civil contractor, confirm soil and slab conditions, and engage a structural engineer to size the portal frame against AS/NZS 1170 wind, snow and live loads.
Stage 02
Shop Drawings & Approval
Detailed shop drawings issued for engineer sign-off. Material schedule, connection details and anchor bolt setting-out plan handed to your civil team so the slab can be poured to suit.
Stage 03
Fabrication & Finishing
Cut, weld, drill and finish — hot-dip galvanised (AS/NZS 4680) or two-pack painted depending on the building's exposure and the architect's spec. Trial-fitted in the shop where geometry allows.
Stage 04
Delivery & Erection
Crane-truck delivery, on-site erection, plumb-and-bolt-up, and final sign-off package — mill certificates, weld inspection records and coating thickness reports handed over at handover.
Standards & Compliance
AS/NZS 5131 Industrial Structural Steel Compliance
Industrial buildings see harder use than commercial offices — heavy floor loads, crane fatigue cycles, vehicle impact. Our compliance pack reflects that.
AS/NZS 5131
Fabrication Category
CC2 by default for industrial portals — CC3 available where engineer-specified for crane-loaded or high-fatigue structures.
AS 4100 + 1170
Structural Design
Member sizing to AS 4100, with wind, snow and live loads taken from AS/NZS 1170. Crane runway design referenced to AS 1418 where applicable.
AS/NZS 4680
Hot-Dip Galvanising
Standard finish for industrial steelwork — full-immersion galvanising tested against minimum coating thickness for the steel category and exposure zone.
