Structural Steel Capacity for Commercial Construction

Three core capabilities drive most Melbourne commercial structural steel scopes — long-span transfers, multi-storey columns, and mezzanine systems. Each handled end-to-end from drawing review to site install.

CAP 01

Long-Span Transfer Beams

Open-plan retail, podium decks, large-clear-span office layouts — UB and welded plate girders sized to engineer's drawings, fabricated without on-site splices.

  • UB sectionUp to 610
  • Welded plate girdersCustom
  • Connection classSP weld

CAP 02

Multi-Storey Columns

Continuous columns for multi-storey commercial structures — same finish, same profile, same fabrication quality from ground to roof.

  • UC sectionUp to 310
  • Hollow sectionUp to 400 SHS
  • Tube columnsUp to 900 Ø

CAP 03

Mezzanine Systems & Portal Frames

Retail mezzanines, warehouse offices, plant platforms — full assemblies shop-fitted and trial-bolted before delivery to minimise site rework.

  • Portal spanUp to 30 m
  • Mezzanine floorMulti-bay
  • Trial-fitPre-dispatch

How We Quote Structural Steel for Commercial Tenders

Four phases from RFP to award. We work alongside your QS, project manager and structural engineer so the steel scope tenders cleanly and integrates cleanly into your overall package.

Phase 01

RFP & Drawings In

Send tender pack with structural drawings, member schedule and tender brief. We confirm scope clarity and flag any drawing gaps before quoting.

Phase 02

Buildability Review

We mark up the drawings for fabrication-friendly modifications and access constraints. Optional site walk with your PM if access or sequencing is complex.

Phase 03

Itemised Tender Response

Line-by-line tender response — material, fabrication, finish, delivery and install. Variations, exclusions and assumptions stated explicitly so your QS can compare like-for-like.

Phase 04

Award & Handover

On award, we lock the price, issue shop drawings to your engineer, and bring our project lead into your weekly project meetings until handover.

End-to-End Structural Steel Supply for Commercial Projects

Most commercial projects fragment the steel scope across a supplier, a fabricator, a finisher, an erector and a transporter. We collapse that into one project lead — for your PM, for your engineer, for your certifier.

The Steel Chain — One Lead

Quote & Shop DrawingsSingle project lead from tender review to fabrication release.
Fabrication & FinishCut, weld, drill, finish — all in-house, same lead person tracking.
Delivery & Site InstallCrane-truck logistics and on-site erection coordinated by the same team.
Compliance & HandoverMill certs, weld records, sign-off — handed over by the same project lead.

Why head contractors prefer it this way

On a typical commercial steel scope, head contractors typically coordinate 4–5 separate suppliers — shop detailer, raw material merchant, fabricator, finisher and erector. Every handover is a chance for finger-pointing when something goes wrong.

Single-point steel scope means one project lead carries the whole package. Your PM calls one number. Your engineer emails one drafter. Your certifier collects compliance docs from one source. If a beam arrives incorrectly, there's no "the fabricator says it's the merchant's fault" — there's a single line of responsibility back to us.

This also makes BIM coordination cleaner. The steel scope updates in one model, not three.

AS/NZS 5131 CC2 Structural Steel Fabrication

Commercial structural steel packages built to AS/NZS 5131 Construction Category 2 by default. Welding under AS/NZS 1554.1, finishing to AS/NZS 4680. Documentation set sized for commercial certifier expectations.

Australian Standards We Work To

  • AS/NZS 5131 — Fabrication construction categories (CC2 default)
  • AS/NZS 1554.1 — Structural steel welding (SP grade)
  • AS 4100 — Steel structures (engineer-side reference)
  • AS/NZS 1252 — High-strength structural bolts
  • AS/NZS 4680 — Hot-dip galvanising

Commercial Documentation Pack

  • Stamped shop drawings for engineer sign-off
  • Mill certificates & batch traceability
  • Welder qualification records (AS/NZS 1554)
  • Weld inspection reports — visual + NDT where specified
  • Galvanising certificates & coating thickness reports
  • QA hold-point sign-offs (drilling, welding, finishing)
